Welcome to Birse Coastal
Birse Coastal is the largest contractor in the UK in Coastal Defence work.
A division of Birse Civils Ltd and part of the Balfour Beatty Group of Companies,
Birse Coastal has a turnover currently in excess of £40m and employs some 73 staff.
From our Chorley office we have a dedicated team specialising in this service
for valued customers including Blackpool, Wyre and Lancaster Councils.
We are experienced in all types of Coastal Defence work from simple rock armour schemes to the construction of complicated new revetments and sea walls.
Our experience includes Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to optimise design solutions, ensuring methods of construction are fully taken into account. One example of this is the use of pre-cast concrete to maximise productivity and quality and minimise the risks associated with working in a tidal environment.
During ECI phases we have also worked with our Customers to produce reports for submission to DEFRA for grant aid and worked with their Landscape Architects to incorporate adjacent public realm enhancements into schemes.
