Birse Coastal Team Proud To Be 'Best Of The Best' At MD's Safety Awards
14 Jul 2009
The Cleveleys Coast Protection project team had their outstanding commitment
to safety recognised at the annual Managing Directors Safety Awards
At the seventh annual Birse MD’s Safety awards ceremony held in Doncaster during
June 2009, a ‘Best of the Best’ award was presented to the Cleveleys Coast Protection
team in recognition of their stringent safety standards on Phase 4A of the works.

This phase of advanced works included vibro-stone columns, steel sheet toe piling,
earthworks and site investigation. Management of the public interface and working
in a challenging tidal environment were high on the list of safety issues for
this scheme.
The ‘best of the best’ accolade is only awarded to those teams that demonstrate:
- Consistently high monthly H&S audits throughout the year
- No RIDDOR accidents, and also no hospital visits requiring significant treatment.
- Excellent track record in avoiding service strikes, an area where people are exposed to significant risk
- A great attitude towards safety, shown by good motivation towards safety across the entire site team
The team at Cleveleys included Nick Fox, Stuart Butler, John Wade and Jason Proudfoot,
led by Site Manager Dave Fazakerley, who commented “We were delighted and surprised
to receive such a coveted award.”
Two other Birse Coastal projects, Blackpool Tramway Renewal and Weston-Super-Mare
Seafront Enhancements also received awards at the ceremony in recognition of their
outstanding safety performance.
Birse Coastal would like to thank all employees and customers for their commitment
to improving standards of health and safety, and congratulate our winners on the
recognition of their outstanding performance.
