Odour Control

Birse Water has successfully undertaken some of the largest and most complex odour control projects in the UK Water Industry. All of these have been on operating wastewater treatment works and have required close liaison with the customer in order to maintain safe operation during and following project implementation.

Birse Water undertakes all aspects of odour control including:-

Plant covering – based on a variety of design and construction materials in order to offer best whole-life costs, taking into account long-term operation and maintenance requirements.

Ductwork – Optimised design which balances capital costs, mechanical integrity, access and pressure drop.

Odour Removal – A wide range of cost-effective solutions depending on specific circumstances of air flowrate, odour loadings, odour components and variability of these parameters.

Typical solutions include:-

  • Odorguard TM catalytically enhanced wet chemical scrubbing
  • Two and three stage wet chemical scrubbing
  • Fluidised bed scrubbing
  • Activated carbon adsorption
  • Thermal oxidation/incineration
  • Biofilters/bioscrubbers
  • Odorguardis a Synetix trade mark

Birse Water has formed a joint venture with Alderley Process Technologies Limited to provide a full capability in odour control.

Alderley Process Technologies has over 25 years experience in the design and supply of air pollution control systems.

The joint venture company – ABAL (Alderley Birse Alliance Limited) – therefore offers a complete technology, design, construction and project management capability which can include:-
  • Odour Surveys

  • Technology Selection
  • Specifications
  • Plant Covers
  • Collection Ductwork
  • Odour Removal
