Birse Civils Eastern Region reopen Secklow Gate Bridge in Milton Keynes

6 Jul 2011

Milton Keynes Council awarded Birse Civils Eastern Region the scheme to repair the Secklow Gate Bridge in May 2011.
The bridge was damaged in January 2010 after a fire underneath it. Cracks were found on the bridge following inspections and the bridge was closed. The prolonged closure of the bridge had caused local unrest and a campaign group had been lobbying the council to get the bridge repaired and reopened.
Following award of the scheme Birse Civils commenced works quickly on the short project in June 2011 and on 30 June the bridge was finally reopened, to the delight of the council, local businesses and residents. Initially the road is partially open one lane each way, however it is expected to be fully opened by 7 July 2011.
