Lancashire County Council and Birse Civils achieve CEEQUAL Excellent Award
4 Dec 2009
Representatives from the Eaves Green Link Road project attended Civils 2009 to
receive a CEEQUAL ‘Excellent’ Award. The scheme was completed in partnership with
Lancashire County Council by Birse Civils North West Region.
CEEQUAL is the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment Scheme that
is improving sustainability in civil engineering and public realm projects. The
award was presented by the former President of the Institution of Civil Engineers,
Dr Jean Venables, OBE, to Wai Kee Leung, Lancashire County Council Project Manager,
Troy Dunne, Birse Civils Sub-Agent, and Perry Shard, Balfour Beatty Regional Civil
Engineering, who was the Scheme Assessor.

The project attained the highest level of award, with a score of 80.5% on the
Whole Project Award basis. This considers the Client, Design and Construction
stages. The project now joins an elite list of only 55 schemes which have attained
acknowledgement for their environmental credentials.
North West Civils has received three Whole Project Awards, all attaining the
top ‘Excellent’ Award. There are currently three further schemes registered for
completion over the coming two years. North West Civils are establishing an enviable
reputation for exemplary environmental achievements. They are continuing to work
with enlightened customers, such as Lancashire County Council, who are becoming
increasingly aware of the benefits of CEEQUAL registration and accreditation.
